The Questionnaire with Matt, Tyler and Woody from Paranoia Dance Party! / By Dotan Schachter
Apr 11th, 2010 • Categories: Musicians, Random Questionnaires, Singers, SongwritersWhat are you doing these days?
Matt – Working on this band and delivering your food. Also, video games. And trying to remember to pay rent.
Tyler – Band wise we are writing our first full length, and planning our tour this summer. Personal life wise I am about to go to college!
Woody – Working a lot, saving for tour, staying up too late with friends and sleeping in too much
What turns you on creatively?
Matt – Looking at myself in a mirror. Really – it’s watching ten metal bands, or ten punk bands, or ten whatever bands, and all of the songs are set up exactly the same. I think music can still be listenable while being different. But really, looking at myself in a mirror.
Tyler – Anything that I havnt heard before. People trying to do something of their own. Originality I guess would boil it down.
Woody – Songs with a lot of groove and emotion. I listen to a lot of lame pop music that I can drum over and a lot of ska and hardcore, as well as bands that have some cool lyrical content
If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?
Matt – I’m already a mind reader – most people just have a big dollar sign floating around in their head.
Tyler – Barack Obama. I mean, he’s the president. If anyone knows some good secrets it’s gotta be him.
Woody – Lady Gaga.
If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?
Matt – The future. No era in particular.
Tyler – The early 90′s. great memories, great time for music.
Woody – The 1950′s or The 1980′s. Both for music
What is your favorite sound?
Matt – RRRRRRRRRRAOWWWWWWWWWRRRRSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tyler – Cheesy 80′s synth tones
Woody – Musically? Ska music makes me happy. If we’re talking about sounds in general, then the sounds of finches chirping. It’s quite soothing.
What is the album or song that influences you the most?
Matt – Everything influences you, whether it’s positively or negatively and whether or not you consciously know it. My most important influences probably include The Flaming Tsunamis, Men Women and Children, Against All Authority, Reel Big Fish, and older Dillinger Escape Plan. I try not to think too much about what other bands are doing, and just do my own thing though.
Tyler – I agree with Matt on this one. some of my influences are Primus, Daft Punk, The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Woody – Fear Everything from The Flaming Tsunamis is a heavy influence on what I play in Paranoia Dance Party, as well as a bunch of other albums. Sticks and Stones from New Found Glory and just recently Coast to Coast from Royal City Riot are some albums that I try and take influence from. There is this guy I found on you tube named Kyle Mueller That does some sweet drum covers of pop songs. I’vealso been watching this solo from Bernard Purdie for like 5 years that heavily influenced me
What drives you crazy?
Matt – The obvious corruption in politics.
Tyler – Bigotry and the close minded.
Woody – People who hate one kind of music/listen to only certain kinds of music. Listen to everything! Embrace it all!
What makes you laugh?
Matt – Stella. The Lonely Island. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
Tyler – Dry humor, Satire, Coincidences. A lot of other things/
Woody – My friends, family, and Youtube.
If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
Matt – World peace. Ending world hunger. And shapeshifting like that naked blue chick in X-Men would be cool. Actually, forget world peace and world hunger. I’ll take laser eyes and magnet powers.
Tyler – Enough money to not have to worry about money, the ability to fly, a full life of solid health.
Woody – Happiness, For everyone in the world to stop bickering, and for The Flaming Tsunamis to stay together and tour
What is the craziest thing you ever did?
Matt – One time I coughed really loud. Like from that Scottish Soccer Hooligans skit on SNL? When David Hyde Pierce was there? He was an American Tennis Hooligan? Anyone? No? Ok… next question.
Tyler – I went skateboarding in a hurricane with a big sheet that pulled me along the sidewalks of my neighborhood. It was very fun, but very stupid. I was pretty young though at the time.
Woody – I snuck into Lady Gaga with my friends Alecia and Sheaira in January of this year. We only saw like 10 seconds or less of her onstage, but we all were freaking out. The rest of PDP make fun of me for it, but I don’t care. That ruled.
Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?
Matt – Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind. I bet he’d produce us a pretty catchy album.
Tyler - Nick Reinhart. I think we could come up with some pretty cool stuff.
Woody – A bunch of pop artists, because that’s usually what I drum to by myself whenever I’m not at PDP practice.
What makes you feel embarrassed?
Matt – I’m embarrassed that I don’t have a good answer to this question.
Tyler – Those old stories everyone has about them they can never live down. When people bring up mine.
Woody – People bringing up things I did as a kid, or people bringing up dumb mistakes I did recently
What are your favorite web-sites (not including the ones that you are participate in)?
Matt – The ones with the ladies that makes out with eachother.
Tyler – Demonoid, Craigslist, eBay, and all the silly social networking sites.
Woody - Youtube and Chatroulette when it’s a group of 4 people or more. Chatroulette by yourself is depressing and shouldn’t be done
What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
Matt – Start this band.
Tyler – Scooter contest when I was younger.
Woody – When I was a little kid I broke my arm putting on pants. Now, that’s silly.
How would you make the world a better place?
Matt – Laser eyes and magnet powers.
Tyler – Do away with bigotry. Thats a pretty big order though
Woody – Try and be nice to more people. Give pedestrians the right of way. Hold the door open for strangers. Idk, small stuff
What is your biggest weakness?
Matt – Video games.
Tyler – Bullets
Woody – Animals
Where will you be in 10 years?
Matt – Hopefully still playing music across the country, or around the world.
Tyler – I always wanna be doing something with music, but besides that I’m gonna be going to college for architecture, so hopefully something with that.
Woody – Happy, 30, in Florida, and probably in college trying to get a higher degree
